Curriculum

The Academy has established a curriculum for girls and young women of ages 11 upwards aimed at the development of a sound balance between scholastic excellence, personal development and physical health. The best results will therefore emerge from home and learning environments geared towards the stimulation and encouragement of intellectual alertness, good character, good behaviour, and the natural optimism and spontaneity of youth.

Core Subjects

Islamic Studies

  1. Memorisation of the Qur’an The aim of our Qur’an teaching is to offer our pupils a clear working knowledge of the Book of Allah with significant portions both memorised in Arabic and understood in English. This will stand them in good stead for life and lay the foundations for a more intensive and profound Islamic education at a later stage, should they demonstrate the appropriate aptitude, which would include the memorisation of the entire Qur’an and the study of tafsir and fiqh.
  2. Classical Arabic As with the Qur’an the rationale for the teaching of Arabic to Muslims is self-evident. Arabic is the language in which Allah revealed the Qur’an, it is the language of the hadith material and it is the language of the vast majority of the major texts dealing with the sciences of the deen.
  3. Sira The primary purpose of studying the life of the Prophet (saws) and the nature of his prophet-hood is to produce an encounter with his reality that brings his being to life and awakens the hearts to love; instilling gratitude and awe. This intimate connection should then flow by extension to his family, to his Companions and to the outstanding early Muslims who sought to emulate him.
  4. Aqida & basic fiqh

MFL (Modern Foreign Languages)

It is one of our medium term aims to develop a strong specialism in the teaching of MFL. At the present time the curriculum offers Arabic, English, Spanish and French

Mathematics & Geometry

“Geometry enlightens the intellect and sets one’s mind right. All its proofs are very clear. It is hardly possible for errors to enter into geometrical reasoning, because it is well arranged and orderly. Thus, the mind that constantly applies itself to geometry is not likely to fall into error. In this convenient way, the person who knows geometry acquires intelligence.” (Ibn Khaldun)

 Physical Education & Sports

The sports we actively encourage are gymnastics, swimming, netball, badminton.

Other Disciplines and Activities

Art, Embroidery, Silk Painting,  Cookery,  Horticulture and Drama

Futuwwa

By its very nature this discipline embraces the entirety of school life and life in the community at large. Therefore, our teachers endeavour to exploit every opportunity which lends itself to the direct transmission of futuwwa, the traditional Islamic practice of inculcating in young people the values of courtesy, service, nobility, patience, obedience to authority, selflessness, courage, sensitivity to beauty, truthful speech, loyalty and generosity. International Dimension.

Student Exchanges & Travel

The Academy will participate in the student exchange programmes organised by the One School Network between participating institutions in England, Spain, Germany and Turkey in order that the girls may benefit from the many advantages to be gained from the experience of travel as well as the linguistic and other opportunities for study on offer in these locations.
